Today morning, my Dad woke up, to find out that his to-do list for the day was too long for the 24 hours. He is a a great husband, a caring and a loving father, a helping hand to his colleagues at the college, and a very lively friend. On receiving and finding the due date of bill payment at the electricity office nearly elapsing out, he called up my sister to ask her of doing a favor of paying the bill. She, everyday goes by the electricity office, on her way to college. So, it won't be too daunting a task for her. But, as I predicted correctly, she refused straightaway on the pretext of dropping at her friend's house on her way to college. It would then make her miss the first class in the morning!!!
Was she right at her position? Was she not disgraceful to dad? Is her visiting the friend more important than doing the simple work of popping in the notes at the bill counter?
Well, I don't think, anyone will answer the above questions in the affirmative. This is just a simple instance of the bad and sometimes heart-breaking "I won't do it' attitude. Personally, I do see good number of such occurrences, be it among the family, among the lovers, the friends, students.... Its quite frustrating..
Coming to more common terms, what is the source of such negative attitudes in a person, and now, most scaringly, a very commoner among the teens and the young one's nowadays? Does that helps? A obvious no. I have always been taught that, in achieving self enlightenment, the simple virtue of service to fellow beings, always acts as a catalyst. There are sometimes hidden hatred behind those minds which leads to this type of behavior. Remember, in helping your fellow beings, you are in turn helping yourself. We should also build up the habit of not expecting any favor in return. It helps you in working, helping, loving others without the act of being selfish.
Again, ego also plays its part sometimes, mostly seen among the lovers. In the relationship of love, quarrel is the other side of the coin. After each fight, a lover often gets into the attitude of "I won't do it" in case of either calling up and saying "sorry" to their beloved ones, or, even in the act of receiving his or her 's beloved's call. Was that ego a part of the relationship when it first started? No? Why then make the "EGO" actor come into play now, now when the relationship is old enough to stand the winds of the lifetime? Shake off the ego, and we shall achieve a even more maturity level in avoiding heart-breaking situations.
Competition, is also a field, where we get to see such faltering morality. I myself have come through such situations with my fellow students. Many a times I have been refused getting help after being absent from the class the previous day. The reason for doing so being my higher marks to his in the exams. Here I would like to ask that, can there be a possibility of a competition between a crippled beggar and a wrestler? That definitely will not be a competition. Also, we should compete with ourselves, not with others(i will soon post on this subject).
The consequences of this attitude is always not very bad, its worst. We should always avoid this dreaded attitude. It may result in others mounting of problems, breakup in relationships and also added hardship for others, as has been today in my case. I had to compensate for my sister's visit to her friend's house by missing my classes to pay the bill, which she would have easily done without missing her classes, if she had kept aside her visit to the friend's house only for time-passing talks . I urge all the reader's of this post to shake off this evil attitude and also help others do the same.By doing so, you will help yourself, you will help others. ~Thanks.
